Documenting Drupal

Drupalcon DC Doc SprintLike Drupal itself, the Drupal handbook has evolved over the years and has been built by many authors at many times. It contains a lot of useful information, but is not always easily found or understood by those who need it. Addison Berry and Drupal's documentation team led a documentation sprint last Saturday following DrupalCon to make some headway on improving this situation.

Each of the approximately 70 sprinters helped to edit the existing documentation, add new topics, and remove obsolete or irrelevant information. Margaux helped to "herd cats", or organize the sprinters and help them find tasks that were appropriate to their interests and skill levels.

Matthew read through pages with user-submitted comments, then edited the original pages to incorporate the useful information from the comments and remove the irrelevant parts. He also helped with the cat-herding and planning of future sprints, and drafted "Documentation Tools" — guidelines for internal use by documentation team members.

In addition to cat-herding, Margaux worked with Andy Laken, Lee Hunter and Jack Aponte to update the Handbook Style Guide, which helps the documentation team write with one consistent voice and reinforce the Drupal brand.
