Here at Grand Junction Design, we have always focused on clients who are trying to do good for the world. We can't help but get excited when others reach out to help them further their mission as well. Recently, the New York Times published a truly inspiring article about a New York family who decided to sell their large home and use half of the money to buy a much smaller home and the other half to support The Hunger Project! (Read the full article here.)
While they gave up their large chunk of living space, the Salwen family gained even more of a family bond. The smaller house allows them to spend more time together, while at the same time knowing that they were able to help make a difference in the world for another family.
The Salwen family researched many good organizations, but chose the Hunger Project because of their exemplary track record of helping global poverty. The Hunger Project has a great long term strategy for ending hunger and poverty. They aim to empower men and women to improve their lives and end their hunger. When you look at the Hunger Project's goals, you can easily visualize the ripple effect that this kind of work will have.
Stories like this article about the Salwens just remind us of how thrilled we are to work for such amazing and worthy organizations. Though not everyone is as fortunate as the Salwens to have the ability to downsize on such a large scale, everyone should consider cutting small halves proportionate to their own lives for the good of the world.
What would you be willing to give up so that others could have food? Post a comment and let us be inspired!
