Kindness and generosity are contagious. When I see a person helping another person, I am touched, and I want to do something helpful too. Kindness begets kindness, generosity begets generosity, and so on. By choosing kindness, we can build community, trust and hope. We strengthen the ties that bind humans together. Because whether we like it or not, we're all connected. Even our feelings and attitudes affect those around us, for better or for worse.
Last night I had the pleasure of celebrating with my new friends at CEJIL -- Center for Justice and International Law -- their 20th anniversary. This is a group of people who completely understand, embrace and use this human connection to make social change. They are working to defend and help people who have been wronged, and to improve the system of international law so that future problems might be prevented.
They're not doing it to become rich or famous. They are doing it because they see fellow humans who need help. They are choosing kindness, and in turn they are strengthening the human community, building trust and restoring hope.
In her remarks, Executive Director Viviana Krsticevic mentioned the unconquerable soul we all share. It's the root of hope, optimism and the belief that we CAN make the world a better place, little by little, working together.
Congratulations to CEJIL, and to all of those who have worked and believed that we can make a difference!
